As the threat of nuclear war creeps ever closer amid the rising tensions between North Korea and the US, Hawaii is preparing its residents for a missile attack.
The campaign, by Aloha State's Emergency Management Agency, will involve regular Cold War-style evacuation drills for schools on the Hawaiian islands.
An emergency siren will also be tested, along with public announcements that state: 'Get inside, stay inside, and stay tuned."
The siren will sound on the first work day of every month.
'We need to tell the public what the state is doing,' agency chief Vern Miyagi said. 'We do not want to cause any undue stress for the public; however, we have a responsibility to plan for all hazards.'
Tourism officials have warned that the move could be disastrous to the state's biggest source of income, as a popular vacation spot.
But Miyagi says it was important for Hawaiians to prepare for the worst, in the same way they would with hurricanes and tsunamis.
'We don't know the exact capabilities or intentions of the North Korean government, but there is clear evidence that it is trying to develop ballistic missiles that could conceivably one day reach our state,' Miyagi said.
'Therefore, we cannot wait to begin our public information campaign to ensure that Hawaii residents will know what to do if such an event occurs.'
Experts say that Kim Jong-un (center) appears to have developed a weapon powerful enough to reach Alaska or even Hawaii.
